STONA 2014: Hobnobbing with Exhibitors

On the sidelines of STONA 2014, the Stone and Tile in India (STI) team interacted with some of the exhibitors to get an overview of the companies they represented and the products they had showcased at the fair. These brief interactions gave the STI team a good understanding of the developments taking place in the Indian stone industry.

Sri Vishnu Granites Limited, a 100 per cent EOU located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, processes granite monuments and slabs. Started as a granite monument processing and export unit, it has rapidly diversified its activities into quarrying and slabs and tiles processing. It currently enjoys a big market, with a niche of its own on the global granite market, especially in places such as Europe, USA and the Middle East.

Under its expansion programme, which was launched in 2013, Sri Vishnu installed the most sophisticated machinery, all imported from Italy – something that enabled it to increase its production capacity considerably.

The company currently offers products such as granite monuments, slabs, tiles and kitchen /counter tops.

The representatives of the company at STONA 2014 consider STONA a big productive event, as it gives the company considerable business leads and an opportunity to convert some of the enquiries into potential business.


SatiSati Granites India Private Limited

SATI Group, a renowned name in the Indian granite industry, began with humble export-trading operations in 2001. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the key players in the industry, with a strong presence in sectors such as stone processing, quarrying, domestic and international retailing, project supplies and exports.

With a client base of over 150-plus customers across the globe, the SATI group currently exports vertical cutter slabs to over 40 countries.

Ever since 2004, the group has been consistently investing in expanding its manufacturing infrastructure. It has set up offices and granite cutting and processing facilities at all important granite locations of India.

In 2013, the group ventured into the gang saw slabs segment by setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing operation at Hosur. It is known as Sati Granites India (P) Ltd (SGIPL).

With an installed capacity of over 280,000 m2 annually, SGIPL is now extending the group’s footprint into developed markets like the US, Europe, the UK, Australia, South and Northern Africa, etc.

SGIPL is currently targeting to double its capacity by installing new Italian machinery.

Kuntal Granites Private Limited was promoted by Mr. Mahesh Gandhi, who set up the first granite-processing factory in 1972 with a wire saw imported from the United States. This wire saw used silicon carbide powder in the slurry; and with this wire saw, the company started probably the first granite-sawing plant in South India.

Kuntal Granites was established in 1988 with its first gang saw factory located in Karnataka. Changing market conditions, updated technology, cost-efficiency and customer requirements led the company to set up a new factory at Hosur, Tamil Nadu, in 2009.

Its present Italian plant is far ahead in its technological and operational aspect as compared to its 1972 predecessor, processing slabs of various thicknesses in the biggest sizes possible – in various finishes like Polished, Flamed, Brushed, Honed, Leather Finish, Lapatura, etc.

The company’s machinery comprises 2 Italian gang saws, a 40 wire multi wire machine, 2 mono wire saw machines for trimming the blocks to attain perfectly trimmed slabs, an automated epoxy heating machine to ensure that all the tiny pinhole pores are well-sealed and 2 hi-tech automated Italian polishing machines to give the best polish and finish to the slabs.

The company has invested largely in state-of-the-art technology. It has recently expanded its capacity with a multi-wire automated machine from Italy, a mono wire machine to dress blocks and a fully automated state-of-the-art 15 head polishing machine with the latest technology from Italy.

Kuntal’s state-of-the-art machinery produces granite slabs in 2 and 3 cm thickness, which are used for kitchen counters, floorings and wall cladding. The company also produces thick slabs that are used for monuments and gravestones. Cut-to-size slabs are also produced for projects.

Decorative StoneDecorative Stones

Decorative Stones and Durable Stones are well-equipped to produce granite slabs and dimensional tiles for different use. The companies have participated in and proudly showcased their decorative and durable stones at various stone exhibitions, adding many customers to their lists of buyers.

Their product Crystal Yellow has attracted many customers in India and in countries such as the UAE, the US and Turkey. A number of Crystal Yellow-related projects are currently being run in the country. Another product that has been attracting both Indian and foreign customers is Rhyolite Brown, which is a rare and the hardest material in the world having zero porosity.

It may be mentioned that the Company own the most mechanised quarry in the region. The Company also carries out big projects and provide consultancy for mining and services related to it, such as development of quarry, mechanisation, environment clearance and supervision of quarries to meet out regular production.

At STONA 2014, the Company received a good response from Indian and foreign visitors and buyers.
